The Vouni Trail from Pano Panagia provides varied walking on a less well used trail. Extensive views and religious history are experienced in the Troodos Foothills.
The Vouni Trail provides pleasant walking on easy tracks around the foothills of the Troodos Mountains. Highlights of the trail include walking through vineyards, extensive views of the high Troodos Mountains and passing the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery Walking the Vouni Trail from Pano Panagia.The Vouni Trail is a 10km circular trail from the village of sleepy village of Pano Panagia in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains The village of Pano Panagia is best know as the birthplace of Makarios III who was an archbishop of the Cypriot orthodox church and a President of the Republic of Cyprus. The Vouni trail starts in the centre of the village from near the recently restored three aisled church of Agios Georgios. Look for the sign from the main road and follow the road uphill passing the school on the left. The grape presses will also be seen on the left. The trail climbs steadily working its way through the vineyards to the Vouni fire look out station. From this amazing viewpoint the vista stretches as far as the high Troodos Mountains and the Akamas Peninsula The trail now continues to the small chapel of Profital Llias, before descending to the Papaloykas Picnic site which is well equipped with picnic tables and barbeque points. From the picnic site the tarmac road is followed past Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery to return to Pano Panagia. Access to the Vouni Trail and Pano PanagiaThe Vouni trail starts from the village of Pano Panagia in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains. The village of Pano Panagia is easily reached by car from Paphos or polis. From either Paphos or Polis the B7 should be taken to Stroumpi. From here the E703 is followed steadily gaining height until the mountain village of Pano Panagia is reached. Refreshments and accommodation are available in the village of Pano Panagia. When to Walk in the Foothills of the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus for the Best ConditionsThe foothills of the Troodos Mountains can be enjoyed in any season. The area is especially interesting and colourful in the Autumn. As with all walks on Cyprus, it is imperative that whatever time of year the Vouni Trail is enjoyed adequate water must be carried.
